“No one is hovering over you.”
Trust above control
What do you like most about your job? That there’s no micromanagement at Symbio. Even though our responsibilities can sometimes be a bit fuzzy no one is hovering over you, which means that management trusts you. I’m also a huge fan of hardcore self-discipline because you sometimes get a job that’s not super sexy. You just have to shovel on even if you are not motivated. But on the up side you get to work with other experts. I know it’s a cliché but in our business, you get so much more done when you work and laugh together.
How do you unwind? I consume different media with my family (not literally, of course), tinker with IT stuff and definitely pamper my cats. Because my day job is to ensure our people can focus on their work and not be overly bothered by non-billable stuff I need to kick back at the end of the day. Actually, when I think about it, cats and IT professionals have a lot in common. Like cats, you need to stop in your tracks and stare the problem down. If you mess around and wag your tail, nothing will get done. But you also have to know when to lie on your back and enjoy the sun.
What would you tell a friend about Symbio? Minimal busywork and meetings. If you have initiative and are self-guided we offer the least intrusive framework to work in. That means we don’t make it our mission to meddle or interfere with your work. I would also tell job candidates to make a portfolio on Github and be open about what you want to do and what you don’t. Our projects are incredibly diverse from a tech point of view, so what you think is not that important in terms of experience or skills might be catnip to us.
